| Pros:I have an old Land Rover Series 3, which does not have power steering. This knob allows me an extra inch or so of leverage and makes parallel parking and tight manoeuvrings a little easier.Inside, there's a small ball bearing race which should keep it going longer (yes - I voided the warranty already, but thats why I claim "expert involvement :) | |
| Cons:Not pictured is a little sprung knob that lets the main handle rotate about 95 degrees outwards (or inwards if you put it on the inside of the wheel) Possibly this is to "put it away" for normal driving. I think its a potential weak spot. The main mounting hole is about 34 mm across, and there's not a lot of slack space for various sized wheels. Mine's only 20mm in any direction, so I've had to be quite creative with packing. I am currently carving a piece of old rimu to replace my hacky customwood prototype. | |
| Other Thoughts:These items are dangerous. If you're a hoon then you can be even more stupid with one. These knobs allow the driver to turn the steering much quicker than normal, which can cause issues. If you have power steering, you DO NOT need these. The other major danger is damaging the driver. I had one in the past which I broke using my forearm and elbow. My landy hit a rock in a riverbed while ambling along at about 10 km/h and I didn't have a good hold of the knob. So when the right front wheel hit a rock, the steering shaft turned the steering wheel and drove the handle into my arm, snapping off the plastic and then struck my right elbow with the metal shaft. Not condusive to driving. | |
| Bottomline:Only for drivers who are aware of the limitations. | |
