| Pros:This is a great USB serial port as a very low price. It is pretty much as good as any other USB-to-serial converter you'll come across. It can allow newer computers to interface older technology. Worked for me even on Linux machines. Includes a USB extension cable, which is pretty much needed to use this thing. | |
| Cons:I can't really think of anything big, although it does feel slightly cheaper than other converters I have used before. | |
| Other Thoughts:This is a great bargain. | |
| Bottomline:If you might have any use for this, go ahead and buy it. It has worked great for me. | |

| Pros:- It's cheap and works well- It appears that all the signals are present. | |
| Cons:- I had some trouble with the drivers. Of course it all ended up well, however I had to install some GPS Mouse drivers (URL available in the forum below) before I got it to work in Windows 7 x64.- The USB extension cable that you get with it is WAY too short. If you use the USB socket on the back of the computer you can barely put the device on top of the computer case, that short. | |
| Other Thoughts:Use it for programming an Atmel microcontroller and it works perfectly. | |
| Bottomline:Highly recommended if you need a cheap USB-RS232 converter (even if you don't need all the signals yet) | |
Cheap adapter that is very useful |

| Pros:This product makes it possible for me to run diagnostic tools for some equipment I constantly use with my new laptop. Sadly, my new laptop did not come with a built in serial port, but no worries; it came with many USB ports so this adapter makes it possible for me to run my common diagnostics again. Thanks dealtoworlde! | |
| Cons:It does stick out a lot, but it's not that much of a con. | |
| Other Thoughts:If you all are going to use this with your laptop, it'll stick out more than a flash drive so make sure you don't accidentally break it off. | |
| Bottomline:I never realized how much I would miss having a serial port until I didn't have one anymore. I highly recommend you all to buy this item. | |

| Pros:Works out of the box with any modern Linux distro as an earlier reviewer notes. Very easy to get up and running as you just plug it in and away you go.Didn't experience any problems at all and have been using it constantly now to link a serial UPS into my Linux fileserver - no issues whatever. | |
| Cons:The only criticism I have is that the USB plug isn't a very sturdy plug so dangling a serial cable off it on the end of a device like this can possibly put undue strain on the USB socket - it's no big deal and as long as you're aware of it it's easy to work round. A small extension cable bypasses this without issue anyway. | |
| Other Thoughts:Great adapter, very cheap, makes it easy to put legacy serial devices on a modern machine without resorting to PCI serial cards. | |
| Bottomline:If you're in need of a serial to USB adapter then this is a great little version with a reliable chipset supported by most platforms. | |

| Pros:- Easy to setup, works right out of the box with any recent Linux distro and with the Windows drivers from the CD.- Fully supports CTS/RTS and DSR/DTR signals, something that several other adapters don't.- Extension cable is nice. | |
| Cons:- Screws don't fit correctly with the case. Since they are male screws and I am using a null-modem cable with screws too, I ended up removing them. | |
| Other Thoughts:Could not get it to work with the latest Windows XP 32-bit drivers from Prolific web site, version v2.0.5.111. Although Windows recognized the device, I always got a message telling that something went wrong while installing the device, ending up with an exclamation mark at the port in Device Manager. When I tried running the installer provided in the CD, first it removed the existing driver. At the second time it installed version 2.0.2.1, which worked fine.If you need to download driver version 2.0.2.1, use this link from Softpedia: http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Prolific-Technology-PL-2303-Driver-Download-24876.html | |
| Bottomline:Good adapter, just what I needed to talk to some RS-232 equipped routers. | |
