Long-running tuned MC-E flashlight

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Price:
Ease of Use:
Build Quality:
Usefulness:
Overall Rating:
Pros:- Finetuned for long runtime- Spring is soldered to switch- Good switch to tailcup body contact- Serial connected MC-E dies
Cons:- Not so bright as it can be- The driver is inaccurately assembled- Electrolytic capacitor (wet foil capacitor) parallel to LED will soon die from heating by LED. And the circuit won't work without it.- Slightly greenish tint- Small defect on head-body thread because hole in the head is slightly offcentered
Other Thoughts:Flashlight uses boost conversion circut controlled by PIC-alike microcontroller.PWM-controller DIM pin and feedback pin controlled by MCU.All MC-E dies connected serially and powered near 12 V from boost convertor.I made some measurements while powering flashlight from 8.0 V lab supply:HI mode 350 mA on LED (4.2W OUT), 650 mA from supply (5.2W IN) EFFICIENCY=81%LO mode 70 mA on LED (0.84W OUT)), 120 mA from supply (0.96W IN) EFFICIENCY=88%Strobe current slowly varies 200..350 mA from power supply.LED module is massive and made from brass or bronze.
Bottomline:Good, but not perfect thower based on parallel-connected Cree MC-E LED. Probably can run about 3 hours 45 minutes at HI and more than 20 hours at LOW mode. Optimal brightness/runtime currents choosed.

Why ist the UF MCU WF-1000L so expensive?

Overall Rating:
Pros:-Works with 2x18650 2500mA over 3,5h-Good and homogen light cone
Cons:-Circuit Board had to low output for the Cree MC-E only 700mA! So the light is not so big it can-problems with flickering
Other Thoughts:-After take apart and complete cleaning the current carrying parts and a little plumbs work for better contacts the lamp works great and without flickering
Bottomline:For a 3 Mode Flashlight with nearby 400-500lm instead of 750lm the Cree-Chip can, the price is to high - then better takes the WF-1000L with 1050mA Output! The parts are good quality only dirt and contact problems rates the quality down!
