Pros:Great value, great price.
Cons:I have real problems getting this to work under WindowsXP. Have tried lots of drivers (recommended in reviews, or located via google) and I can't get it to work. Device *IS* detected automatically under Ubuntu (Hardy Heron) just fine. So presumably it is the generic chip people claim it to be. Just a hassle trying to get it to work - for me - under Windows. That aside: decent build quality, but not great. I own an "Ebay" item which is similar, cost $4 and is significantly nicer. And it works under windows, which I
Other Thoughts:I bought 3, thinking it was great value. Strictly speaking, it is great value if they work. I'm not convinced they work.
Bottomline:Probably you are better off getting a slightly more expensive, better build quality, easier to get working unit.

Too cheap to be true

Pros:Quite a cheap device usb to RS232 based on PL2303 chip.
Cons:It uses ceramic resonator rather than quartz which is cheaper, but less stable. Sometimes it doesn't get recognized correctly and sometimes it doesn't transmit data, but it works most of the time. One of the 3 I bought didn't work at all.
Other Thoughts:I didn't test if support CTS/RTS and DSR/DTR signals, but looking at the price compared to sku.5859 I guess it doesn't.
Bottomline:This device is only for desktop use. It's unreliable for use with serious hardware like monitoring systems.

Pros:THIS PRODUCT HAS YOUR FAVOR IN HANDLING FACILITY. IS A CHEAP AND PRACTICAL SOLUTION FOR YOU OWN ANTIQUE ACCESSORIES EXIT WITH SERIAL AND COMPUTER WITH USB INPUTS ONLY.
Cons:DO NOT KNOW IF THAT ENOUGH TO BE RELEVANT BUT FOUND THE PRODUCT WITH APPEARANCE somewhat delicate. NOTHING THAT A LITTLE attention in order to AVOID BREAKING OF WELDING OR BREAKING THE PLATE.
Other Thoughts:THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCT IS VERY CHEAP. HERE IN BRAZIL THE VALUE IS AROUND R$ 20.00 WHILE HERE ON THE WEBSITE YOU PAY US$ 2.99.
Bottomline:THIS WAS MY FIRST PURCHASE ON THIS SITE. HAD A FEAR OF NOT RECEIVE ORDER, BUT THE PRICE decided to risk. CAME FROM THE PRODUCT AND THEN MAKE SEVERAL SHOPPING!

Pros:well if u need this adapter then u simply should buy it, comes with the drivers and even extension usb cable (about 70cm). on those products i prefer to buy the chip ones; it works, simple task to do.
Cons:*screws are not so awsome (but who cares?)*drivers were abit confusing (got win7, and win 98 drivers on disk said i dont need to install coz it is automatic. eventually i needed to go to the Device Manager and to choose to install the driver from the disk folder)
Bottomline:buy it if u need it, worth the price

Simple, effective

Pros:Works under linux without extra drivers.Works under OSX with downloaded drivers (it was an old install of OSX, not sure if new versions need extra drivers).
Cons:What cons? It's tiny, it works.
Other Thoughts:Picked it up for downloading GPS data off of an old garmin. I also use it to communicate with older micro controllers, etc. Most managed switches and other network devices still have an RS232 port for their initial configuration, but pretty much no new laptops have an RS232 port. That makes this very useful in an office context.
Bottomline:Cheap effective tool. If you need one, buy it. If you work in IT you will probably need one eventually. Buy one, and keep it in your bag of tricks.
